Molecular diagnostic technology, especially the pathogen metagenomic test technology (mNGS), has a broad application prospect in traditional pathogen diagnosis, unknown new pathogen identification, composite infection diagnosis, drug resistance diagnosis, evaluation of human reaction and anti-infection efficacy, etc. It not only provides a useful means for the prevention and control of infectious diseases, but also improves clinical diagnostic capability.
With mNGS, it is possible to comprehensively analyze the microorganisms and host genetic materials (DNA and RNA) in patient samples. The technology has been put into clinical application after tests, supporting objective diagnosis as a part of the basis for doctors' differential diagnosis. In the mNGS detection in clinical laboratory, it is a challenge to interpret the final results since it contains various microbial information, including normal flora, contaminated microorganisms and background microorganisms. The control of background microorganisms in the kit makes it easy to establish the background microorganism database and to objectively interpret the mNGS results.
